严复译《原富》中经济术语译名的平行语料库考察

Yan Fu's Translations of Economic Terms in Yuan Fu: A Parallel Corpus-based Investigation

本研究以亚当·斯密(Adam Smith)的The Wealth of Nations(1776)和严复汉译本《原富》(1902)为语料,尝试将平行语料库方法应用于严复经济术语翻译的考察,并与现代译本译名对比,探讨严复译名的策略及其动机,旨在发现晚清时期中国知识界对西方社会科学术语的认识与接受。严复作为晚清时期通过翻译向西方学习的一个代表,其译名观点与策略体现了晚清时期中国知识界对西方社会科学的一种态度,即从术语译名入手建立西学在中国的概念体系,推动民众接受新思想。

With the help of a parallel corpus consisting of the English ST and its Chinese translation, the present paper at- tempts to launch an investigation into the translation of economic terms in Yan Fu＇ s rendering of Adam Smith＇ s The Wealth of Nations （1776） in 1902. Yan＇ s translation is also compared with the present-day versions so as to find out the motivation be- hind his translation strategies and the reception of western social science terms by the intellectual class then. As one of the rep- resentatives of those who tried to learn from the west through translation, Yan＇ s ideas about term translation and the strategies he employed reflect the attitude assumed by the intellectual class at that time toward western social science, i.e. an attempt to establish a conceptual system of western learning in Chinese through term translation and to rejuvenate the people then ideologi- cally.
