On the basis of shared values and specific strategic interests,U.S.- India defense security cooperation has made clear progress over the past several years, including realized breakthroughs on several specific issues. Of these,of greatest strategic importance is the effort by the two states at the highest levels to remove national policy and institutional barriers impeding defense securitycooperation. On a wide range of critical issues,the two states have developed a basic consensus and identified initial spaces for collaboration. This has served to construct a solid foundation for the two states to make further breakthroughs in the future on even more strategic cooperation. Through a detailed analysis of the most recent progress in strategic defense security cooperation between the US and India,this paper attempts to analyze the deeper shared values and strategic interests driving the cooperation,and consider its prospects for the future.
