摘要
利用汉语词典语料全面梳理汉语"西"历时词汇演变背后的概念隐喻,同时对比METALUDE英语隐喻语料库的基本类比,可以看到这两种语言历时语义拓展都建立在合理的基于人类共同身体体验的认知基础上,概念转喻和隐喻是最主要动因。因为汉语方位词空间和时间的统一观,汉字的同音假借以及有别于英语的传统典故,英汉语方位词"西"在具体隐喻词条上各自表现出鲜明的民族形象和多样的认知对比。
The conceptual metaphors behind the diachronic lexical semantic changes of Chinese charac- ter ＂Xi＂ are analyzed via the dictionary-based corpus, and then they are contrasted with the basic anal- ogies in METALUDE English metaphor corpus. It is shown that the semantic expansions in these two languages are made on the basis of the shared embodied physiological experiences of human beings, and the conceptual metonymy and metaphor are the main motivation. Due to the unified concept of space and time in Chinese orientation words, the guise of homonym in Chinese words and unique allu- sions in Chinese language, the lexical terms in the metaphorical extension of Chinese character ＂Xi＂ and EngIish word ＂west＂ show distinct national characteristic and diverse cognitive understandings.
