Modernity and the Task of Philosophy

从哲学的层面看,现代性是一种普遍的原则和价值立场,是一种精神取向。现代性最根本的特征,是人成为绝对的尺度,不承认任何超越人的原则。它既是解放,也是放任。把人从一切清规戒律中解放出来,同时放任人的欲望。现代性的哲学表述是主体主义哲学,它放弃追求根本之道,导致哲学本身的死亡。现代性批判若不能导致对常道的追寻,将最终归于虚无。

Modernity observed at philosophical level is a universal principle and a standpoint of value, which is in spiritual dimension. The fundamental feature of modernity is that the humans become an absolute criterion, and it denies any principle beyond humans. It is either liberation or laissez-faireism. It liberated human beings from rules and conventions and, at the same time, let alone human desires. The subjectivist philosophy philosophically expresses modernity. Its abandoning of pursuing a cardinal doctrine leads to the death of philosophy itself. The critique of modernity will attain a final nihilism if it leads not to a normal doctrine.
