The formation and development of the political economy of socialism with Chinese characteristics has a clear historical clue, which comes down in one continuous line and advances with time. The first generation of the central collective leadership, led by Mao Zedong, laid the foundation for the political economy of socialism with Chinese characteristics; the second generation of the central collective leadership, led by Deng Xiaoping, made a major breakthrough in the political economy of socialism with Chinese characteristics; the third generation of the central collective leadership, led by Jiang Ze- min, built the basic framework of the socialist market economy and further deepened our understanding of the political economy of socialism with Chinese characteristics; the fourth generation of the central collective leadership, led by Hu Jintao, put forward sci- entific outlook on development, which was a new development of the political economy of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
