Geisha and the Development of Ci in Tang and Song Dynasty

在文学发展史上，词作为一种新兴的文体，它的产生和繁荣，歌妓起到了举足轻重不可或缺的作用，从某种角度说，没有歌妓的参与，记号就难以产生和发展，也更难以兴盛，在词体形成过程中的作用，唐宋词的基本内容和实用功能的实现等方面，歌妓都发挥了积极的不可磨灭的作用。

In Chinese history, Ci was once a kind of new literature style, while geisha played an extremely important role during the course of Ci's coming into being and prosperity. To some extent, without geishas, Chinese Ci would have had no chance to originate and develop, let alone boom. In Tang and Song Dynasty, geishas were always active and their achievements were indelible. For Ci's development, they made arduous efforts and paid a price. Therefore, we should attribute the development and prosperity not only to those writers, but also to those special women - geishas.
