汉英小说翻译中流动类运动事件再词汇化模式探究——以莫言《丰乳肥臀》及葛浩文英译本为例

Re-lexicalization Pattern of Fluidic Motion Event in Chinese-English Novel Translation: With Reference to Mo Yan's Big Breasts and Wide Hips and Its Translation

根据Talmy运动事件词汇化理论,以莫言《丰乳肥臀》及葛浩文英译本中动词"流"及其激活的流动类运动事件为实例,采用定量观察和定性分类分析的方法,探寻汉英小说翻译中激活流动类运动事件的核心动词再词汇化模式特征。研究发现,葛浩文译文中再词汇化后的运动事件核心动词语义包容信息与原文核心动词相比存在差异,且语义包容量普遍大于原文,词汇化程度高于原文;不同的语义成分也表现出融入动词的不同潜力。本研究借助现有的小说平行语料,寻找汉英小说翻译词汇化模式的整体倾向,以期对移动类动词的汉英翻译实践以及翻译批评提供指导。

This research takes the Chinese motion verb ＂liu＂and the motion event activated by this character as examples from Mo Yan＇s novel Big Breasts and Wide Hips and Howard Goldblatt＇s English translation as the authentic materials. It intends to figure out the re-lexicalization process and patterns of the core verbs in a fluidic motion event in Chinese-English novel translation via quantitative observation and qualitative analysis from the perspective of Talmy＇s lexicalization theory. The analysis finds out that there are shifts of semantic components in a given core verb in the English translation comparing with the original text; semantic components integrated in English verbs usually outnumber those in Chinese verb ＂liu＂. That is,English fluidic motion verbs are more likely to show a higher degree of lexicalizations than Chinese; different semantic components show different level of tendencies as integrated into verbs and ＂Manner＂shows the highest tendency to be integrated into English translated verbs corresponding to ＂liu＂. It aims at finding out the whole tendency and regular patterns of re-lexicalization of a core motion verb and the motion related components in Chinese and English translation,which can shed some light on Chinese-English translation practice,translation criticism and translation education.
