“Ethics Republic”of love: an ethical literary interpretation of The Republic of Love

加拿大当代著名女作家卡罗尔·希尔兹的长篇小说《爱情共和国》讲述了主人公汤姆和菲之间曲折而又浪漫的爱情故事。本文以文学伦理学批评为研究视角,从爱情的伦理严肃性、伦理责任性和平衡性三个方面来分析小说所传递的爱情伦理观,揭示希尔兹对现代人的爱情、道德和责任等方面的伦理思考。

The Republic of Love is a novel written by the contemporary famous Canadian writer Carol Shields. It tells the hero Tom and Fay's twists and romantic love story. Based on the theory of ethical literary criticism,this paper analyzes the love ethics view of the novel from three aspects: seriousness,responsibility and balance,thus reveals the author's ethical thinking on love,moral,responsibility,and so on.
