Some important versions that can be called milestones in the history of annotations to the Zhou Changes include the version of Wang Bi(226-249)and Han Kangbo's Commentary on the Zhou Changes, that of Kong Yingda's(574-648)Subcommentary,the eight-line version printed in the Yue(present Shaoxing City in Zhejiang Province)and the ten-line folk version carved in Min(i.e.,Fujian Province)in the Southern Song dynasty(1127-1179),as well as the edition re-printed at the Wuyingdian Palace during the reign of Emperor Qianglong(r.1735-1795),among which the last one realized many innovations and whose specific characteristics are mainly manifested in five aspects:1)Its content directly originated from the eightline version printed in the Southern Song;2)The Exegetical Texts of the Classics(Jingdian shiwen 经典释文)were combined into the different hexagrams and lines of the Wang Bi and Han Kangbo's Commentary and Kong Yingda's Sub-commentary,the first version that incorporated the basic text, the Commentary, the Sub-commentary,and exegetical texts into one entity;3)It was the first version combining the Zhou yi jing zhuan yuanmu(Original Content of the Basic Text and Commentaries of the Zhou Changes)and Zhou yi zhu jie chuanshu ren(Transmitters of the Commentary and Sub-commentary on the Zhou Changes)as the first part of the book;4)It was the first version with a collating note attached— "Textual Research on the Commentary and Sub-commentary on the Zhou Changes";5)It was the first version with punctuation in the modern sense.
