Recently investigators pay more attention to the relationship between obesity and bronchial asthma (asthma). A large literatures suggest the association between obesity and asthma. But the mechanism about this association is not fully clarified. Chronic low grade systemic inflammation is recognized as the characteristic of obesity which may possibly explain the relationship between obesity and asthma. There is now a great deal of research for infiltration of immune and inflammatory cells into adipose tissue that leads to inflammatory cytokines that release and subsequently lead to organ damage such as pulmonary, liver and heart. This process may cause chronic diseases such as asthma, fatty liver disease and coronary heart disease. Macrophages are the key immune cells. We can not ignore the maerophage-mediated inflammatory that may explain the mechanism. This review focused on the effect of macrophages and its subtypes in obesity and asthma. Also, it explored the relationship between obesity and asthma.
