孙中山的海外形象这一论题尚未引起研究者的充分关注。从1896年"伦敦蒙难"事件开始,直至1925年3月去世,《纽约时报》对其报道日渐增多,将孙中山这一政治形象逐步引入到美国公众视野之中。报道以一贯的西方价值观念,衡量中国革命的成败,与美国对华政策共鸣,成为探索孙中山为美国朝野认知程度的一项重要指标。《纽约时报》上孙中山生前形象的演变,向我们展示出孙中山革命生涯中丰富的历史图景,对于进一步丰富和拓展孙中山研究具有重要的意义。

The image overseas of Sun Yat-sen has received not enough attention from academic world. From the kidnapping incident in London in 1896 to the news of death of Dr. Sun in 1925,there had been increasing news coverage of him in the New York Times,the political image of Sun Yat-sen was brought into the attention of American public. The cognitive process of Sun in this newspaper had been as dynamic as the political situation and America foreign policy towards China changed. This process presented us the whole historic picture of the life of Sun. The study of this theme possesses important reference significance to enrich and extent the research of Sun Yat-sen.
