In the 20th century Dmitry Likhachev proved the only person capable of studying Russian literature, Russian folklore and Russian culture, including art and architecture,throughout its development and in the broad international context. Likhachev, among other things, managed to create a school of comparative literary studies researching the old Russian literature in the global context.
