In collaboration with an infrastructure construction project, Xi'an Municipal Institute of Cultural Heritage Conservation and Archaeology conducted excavations to 113 burials dating from the Han Dy- nasty to the Ming Dynasty from 2011 to 2012. Among the burials excavated, a tomb (numbered 2011JGYM92) of the Tang Dynasty is well preserved, which is an earthen cave tomb with a vertical passage. The artifacts unearthed from this tomb included porcelain jars, a pottery ink-slab, bronze mir- rors, bronze coins and iron locks, as well as an epitaph sets. According to the text in the epitaph in- scription, it is known that the occupant of the tomb is Yang Chou, the deceased investigating censor (Jiaxtcha yushi) of the Tang Dynasty, who was interred in the seventh year of the Xiantong Era of the Tang Dynasty (866 AD) . The excavation of this tomb provides material evidence for the study of the life and lineage of theYang family.
