John Dewey was irrevocably committed to education as an academic discipline in American universities. He took education as the main platform and base to carry out theo- retical study of education, found education curriculum system and creat the laboratory school, making outstanding contributions to the development of education in American universities from the 19th to 20th century. With the systematic study of Dewey＇s educational practices and achievements in University of Chicago and Columbia University, it showed the whole development situation of education as an academic discipline in American universities, but also provide us the beneficial reference for the reform of education discipline in China＇s universities.
