李中宇教授认为痛风多因饮食不节,过食膏粱,或先天不足,脾肾亏虚,运化失司,导致湿、热、瘀等互结,流注关节,阻滞经络,为痛为肿。急性期清热解毒、凉血消肿、通络止痛;缓解期健脾益肾、除湿通络,同时注重并发症及饮食调理管住嘴、迈开腿、心要静、身要动,畅通大便;针对急性期关节红肿热痛,根据“透皮吸收”理论,结合以“从痈论治”,创立清碧散（大黄、黄柏等,研粉末,清水调糊状）,外敷病变关节,1-2次/d,清热解毒、凉血消肿、通络止痛。
