都市书写是鸳鸯蝴蝶派小说的现代形态之一。鸳鸯蝴蝶派作家以各自叙事和言说方式赋予文本以各自的城市想象与文化记忆,或是现代气息浓郁的上海,或是传统与现代并置的北京,或是繁华中凸显乡土色彩的天津。其笔下的都市书写反映鸳鸯蝴蝶派作家矛盾、复杂的都市文化心理,新与旧、传统与现代的矛盾与困惑。这一类写作对于当代都市小说的写作具有启示意义。

The urban writing is one of the modern form of the Mandrin Duck and Butterfly school（it is called as Yuanhu in Chinese） novels. The Yuanhu style writers are going ahead to their way of narration and speech to give the text to their urban imagination and cultural memory, or it is strong modern flavor in Shanghai, or it is the juxtaposition of traditional and modern Beijing, or it is busy in the local color highlights in Tianjin. Urban writing reflects complex psychology of city culture of Yuanhu writers, new and old, traditional and modern contradictions and confusion. This kind of writing is of the enlightenment significance to the writing of the contemporary urban novel.
