On the Multiple Symbolic Implications of ‘Rainbow'——A Rereading of Maodun's Rainbow

《虹》是茅盾与秦德君合作而成的作品,但二人后来对这部作品的说法不一。"虹"具有多重象征意蕴,它是革命的象征,是时代女性妖气与魔力的象征,也是男女两性关系的隐喻。希望与虚妄、革命与爱情、妖气与魔力、男性与女性,构成了"虹"的复杂的内涵,"虹"也因此而变得复杂神秘,摇曳多姿,给我们留下丰富的想像与阐释的空间。

Maodun and Qin Dejun cooperated in writing Rainbow, but since then, they have given quite different interpretations about the work. ＇ Rainbow＇ has multiple symbolic implications： it can be the symbol of revolution, yet it also symbolizes the charm of fashionable women and sexual attraction. The multiple meanings of Rainbow include hope and fabrication, revolution and love, magic and charm, man and woman. The rainbow thus becomes complex and mysterious, giving us more imaginative and interpretive spaces.
