The aim of present study is to investigate the co-infection of spotted fever group rickettsiae (SFGR) and severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) in eastern central China. Ticks were collected by flag-drag method and checking ectoparasites from animal body surface, followed by detection of pathogens with PCR and RT-PCR. A total of 215 adult Haemaphysalis longicornis ticks were collected from Xinyang City (Henan Province) including 164 host-seeking ticks and 51 parasitic ticks. Of the 215 ticks 37 ( 17. 2% ) were tested positive for SFGR, 38 ( 17. 7% ) were positive for SFTSV, and 4 ( 1. 9% ) were co-infected with SFGR and SFTSV. A total of 166 adult Haemaphysalis longicornis ticks, all were host-seeking ones, were collected from Jinan city (Shandong province). Of the 166 ticks 4 (2. 4% ) were tested positive for SFGR, 6 (3. 6% ) were tested positive for SFTSV, and 2 (1. 2% ) were co-infected with SFGR and SFTSV. The results of present study reveal that the co - infection of SFGR and SFTSV is real existed in ticks distributed in eastern central China.
