Objective to study the effect of Orem self-care mode on the quality of life in patients with ankylosing spondylitis. Methods 78 patients with ankylosing spondylitis were selected as the research object, and randomly divided into control group (routine nursing model) and research group (Orem self-care mode), 39 cases in each group. The negative emotions and quality of life of patients were evaluated by SAS and SDS QOL. Using self-made questionnaire survey, the patients were investigated with satisfaction. Results SDS and SAS score of the two groups before nursing were no significant difference (P〉0.05). SDS and SAS score after nursing of research group were significantly less than the control group (P〈0.05). There was no significant difference in QOL score before nursing between the two groups (P〉 0.05). The QOL score of the research group after nursing were significantly higher than that of the control group (P〈0.05). The satisfaction rate of the research group (97.4%) was higher than that of control group (87.4%) (P〈0.05). Conclusion The application of Orem self-care mode in the nursing care of patients with ankylosing spondylitis can effectively stimulate the subjective initiative, improve the professional skills and nursing level, alleviate the negative emotions, promote the rehabilitation of the disease and improve the quality of life and prognosis of patients.
