Analysis of the data from PISA 2012 Shanghai shows that the internet gives positive impact on students' academic performance, given that most background variables such as family socio- economic status are controlled with the use of propensity score matching. Moreover, the earlier one is exposed to the internet, the better one's academic performance will be. Meanwhile, the age of first internet use is affected by those background variables. As a result,it seems that the internet plays an increasingly essential role in widening the gap of academic performance, and the digital divide is continuously effective. Although the reproduction theory of internet has been proved, the positive impact of internet should not be neglected.
