周汝昌先生关于甲戌本的一段不实之言

On Mr.ZHOU Ruchang's Untruthful Comments on A Dream of Red Mansions Version 1754

周汝昌先生1948年借阅胡适藏甲戌本期间,于首页第三行下端"多□□红楼"处盖过两方"顨父"印章。为去除周印,胡适不得不连同其下"多□□红楼"一并撕去。甲戌本首次影印时,胡适在装裱的里纸上补写了撕去的字,并钤两方"胡适之"印。大陆早期公开发行的影印本尽去胡适痕迹,形式上恢复了甲戌本原貌。周汝昌盖章是胡适撕书、补字、钤印的根源;然周先生不但不坦陈真相,反指责影印本失真,并一本正经地"寻觅影印移补来历",其言行发人深思。

Mr. ZHOU Ruchang once affixed two personal seals on the first page of A Dream of Red MansionsVersion 1754, while he borrowed the book from Dr. HU Shih in 1948. As Mr. ZHOU 5 s sealing was nondescript,Dr. HU Shih, the owner of the book, had to tear the seals and the words underneath them together.Mr. ZHOU did not tell the truth about the sealing in his later works, but tried to cover up his unreasonablebehavior.
