Traditionally,Emperor Yang of Sui has been known as a tyrant. However, there are also some people who believe that he was a good ruler and he made great contribution to the economic prosperity in the Jiangnan region. Emperor Yang loved this place very much and hence made a series of policies to push forward its prosperity,for example canalizing the great cannel, employing officials from Jiangnan region,respecting Tiantai Sect etc. , which contributed a lot to the prosperity in this region. With literature research, Emperor Yang＇ s contribution to Jiangnan prosperity is shown with a large number of historical documents and writings.
