Public history and archivology both seek to serve the public. This mission becomes the beginning of their dialogue. From the 1970 s,many social movements and the motive for 'professionalization'turned the American public to be more aware of the usefulness of archival sources. The rise of public history also provided additional motivation. Public history and archivology are both concerned about how to preserve and interpret the past. As such, they joined hands in historical study, mutually benefiting from each other. Comparable in content and methodology, they also seek to help expand and implement social justice. As the digital and global age is upon us, historical study has become more linked to the public. Archives have also become more open to increasingly diversified readership. All this has offered a new space for us to think about how to better connect the study of public history and archivology in China today.
