In order to get a deeper understanding of Hardy＇s literary works which buih on the immortal kingdom of Wessex, the analysis of Hardy＇s ecological cosmic consciousness is conducted with respect to the cost paid in the conflict between mankind and the universe, the interpersonal affinity or estrangement reflected in the distance between constellations, and the delight humans take in a harmonious relationship with the universe. In Hardy＇s exploring process, no matter in the aspect of man＇s position in the universe or the relationship between human beings and nature, he insisted to the concept of harmonious coexistence and advocated people to accept and respect the fact that all kinds of lives and nonliving objects have the same values. This draws a conclusion that humans are only tiny beings in the universe and thus the best achievable lifestyle is to harmoniously coexist with and give mutual help to all beings in the universe.
