Objective To explore the effects and safety of B-ultrasound guided improved Seldinger technique in the chemo- therapy treatment of breast cancer patients in preventing phlebitis and local tissue necrosis induced by drugs exosmosis. Methods We collected 98 cases of breast cancer patients who required long-term intravenous infusion and chemotherapy. All of them had poor peripheral vascular condition, so they were given the Bard PICC implanted by the B-ultrasound guided improved Seldinger technique. Results The successful rate of puncture was 100%. 92 cases were punctured successfully in one time. Six cases were punctured successfully in 2 or 3 times. And 8 cases had minor complications. Conclusion B-ultrasound guided improved Seldinger technique was easy to operate. It also provided high successful rate of puncture and low risk of mechanical phlebitis. Thus it is a safe and convenient infusion approach for the breast cancer patients with postoperative chemotherapy.
