The Phenomenon of Cultural Default in the Translation of Classic Saying in Historical Records

《史记》开先秦史传散文之先河,其经典名言更是言辞典雅精炼,其英语译文也非常精妙。然而,由于英汉语言文化差异,中国古文和当代英语在互译过程中会出现一些"文化缺失现象"。文章以《史记》中的经典名言英译句子为语料库,剖析其英译译句,从社会文化、时代背景方面,联系上下文方面,以及从当时的风俗、文化方面突显英汉互译过程中的"文化缺失现象",并由此提出"异化加注""归化异化并用""文化移植"等方式,来避免英汉互译中出现"文化缺失现象"。

Historical Records is the most famous prose in historic literature about Pre-Qin period, the classic saying of Histori-cal Records is short but elegant , and the English version is very graceful .But, with many differences of Chinese and English , there are some problem in translation of classical Chinese into current English .That is the phenomenon of cultural default .On the transla-tion of Chinese classic saying into English , to analyze the sentences , the phenomenon is caused by many aspects which are social culture and historical custom and culture on the one hand , the connection of context and historical custom and culture on the other hand.In this condition, the paper finds many ways to avoid it , which are foreignization plus a note , domestication and foreigniza-tion, and cultural transplantation .
