思想实验的本体为理论实体。在当代科学前沿,理论实体已远离基于经验的物质实体。这是思想实验与物质实验的本质区别之一。理论实体是人的思维的产物,具有不确定性,作为一种科学意象而存在。在思想实验的运作过程中,人们"看"到了一组实验对象连续变化的"图像",其实质是科学意象的不断转换。思想实验本体的意象化存在方式,为思想实验条件的理想化的实现提供了可能。这也正是思想实验优越于物质实验之所在。
