This paper is a revisit of the theoretical implications and significance of the Unaccusativity Hypothesis. Major conclusions include: 1) The distinction between unaccusative and unergative verbs is based on the semantic contrast between ACT and STATE,which are shared respectively by subcategories of each type of verb; 2) As most intransitive verbs can behave either unergatively or unaccusatively,it is neither possible nor desirable to categorize a verb on a lexical base; 3) Essentially, the Unaccusativity Hypothesis is a demonstration of the correspondence betwen a verb's semantic features and its syntactic behaviors, and thus the theoretical significance of the Unaccusativity Hypothesis largely hinges on bridging the gap between syntax and semantics.
