图形-背景理论是认知语言学的重要理论,是实现突显功能的重要手段。通过对《庄子》英译本中句子层面对图形和背景关系的探讨,可以看出英汉两种语言在句子突显上的存在差异,译本中对简单句、复合句及其他句式应采用不同翻译方法。英汉句式对于突显功能的实现都有独特的方式,句子的翻译要在忠实原文的基础上实现突显功能。

F igure-ground theory is important com ponent of Cognitive Linguistics which is vital tool to achieveprom inence. By discussing the relation of figure and ground in sentence level in ZhuangZi English version can makea conclusion that there are some differences between English and Chinese in sentence prom inence. Different versionsadopt different translation methods in simple sentences, complex sentences and other sentences. English and Chinesesentence pattern has its special m ethod to achieve prom inence while the translation of sentence must achieve prom inenceby fidelity to the original text.
