Material safety data sheets （ MSDS） are useful documents for maintaining a safe and health-y work environment for employees exposed to hazardous materials. These data sheets present an accu-rate ,clear and concise summary of the hazards associated with given products. MSDS provide health hazard warnings, hazard minimisation measures and first aid information. To help the experimenter un-derstand the safety information of chemical reagents,and to ensure safe operation of laboratory and per-sonal safety of experimenter, three ways to inquire material safety data sheet （MSDS） from websites are introduced with phenol as an example. The methods to obtain the Chinese version of MSDS, as well as the English version,are described in detail.
