On the Emotional Characteristics of the Farewell Poems in the Tang Dynasty

唐代送别诗情感特征大致可分为三类:或慷慨豪壮、奋发蓬勃;或哀而不伤、委婉缠绵;或孤愤幽怨、感伤悲切。在情境营造上,尤以饮酒话别、折柳相送、慷慨悲歌最为常见。唐代送别诗的大发展与兼收并蓄的时代风气、诗人对道的追求和自我意识觉醒密不可分。

Emotional characteristics of the Farewell Poems in the Tang Dynasty can be roughly divided into three categories: heroic and vigorous, sorrowful and euphemistic, bitter and mournful. The most common settings in the poems include drinking wines before saying goodbye, picking up a pillow branch for leavers, and singing a sad song. The great development of the Farewell Poems in the Tang Dynasty was closely related to the eclectic atmosphere of that time, poets' pursuit of Taoism and their self-consciousness.
