There exist numerous metaphors in literary works. Linguists and philosophers, represented by Greek philosopher Aristotle in particular, have studied metaphors as a kind of rhetorical device for thousands of years. This paper, based on findings of metaphor study in the fields of linguistics, cognitive psychology and neuroscience, and the analysis of origin and development of the two major kinds of metaphor--body metaphor and non-body metaphor, explains that the root of the generation of literary metaphors lies in the human's unique metaphorical biological property, which provides a new angle for literary metaphoric research.
