Ante-mortem and Post-mortem Appraisals: A Study of Empress Wang of Emperor Xuan Zong

玄宗王皇后拥有显赫的家族声望。她凭借杰出的政治才能参与宫廷政变挽救唐王朝,帮助其夫唐玄宗取得帝位,并通过管理好庞大的后宫为开元之治的出现作出贡献。关于王皇后被废及之死,不但事件过程充满戏剧性而且理由也是说法不一,但根本原因还是当朝为了肃清武后的影响。她生前被玄宗所废,身后却被唐王朝复尊为皇后,而且后世史书对她也相当同情。

Empress Wang of Emperor Xuan Zong was from a prestigious family. By virtue of her outstanding political ability she participated in a palace coup to save the Tang Dynasty and helped her husband Emperor Xuanzong acquire the throne. She also made a special contribution to the peace and prosperity of the Kaiyuan period by managing a large harem. There were various narratives of her dethronement and death,but the fundamental reason was the need to eliminate the influence of Empress Wu Zetian. She was dethroned by Emperor Xuanzong,but had her title restored and she won considerable sympathy in historical records.
