中国学者英语学术论文手稿模糊限制语使用特征研究——基于语料库的对比考察

A Corpus-based Study on the Hedges in the Original Manuscripts of Chinese Scholars' English Academic Papers

本文收集中国学者英语学术论文手稿和相应领域高水平国际期刊论文,自建两个语料库,采用基于语料库的中介语对比分析法,研究中国学者英语学术论文中模糊限制语的使用特征。结果表明:1)中国学者使用模糊限制语的总体频率偏低;2)中国学者使用程度变动型模糊限制语的频率显著偏高,而使用范围变动型和间接缓和型模糊限制语的频率显著偏低;3)对每一类模糊限制语进一步的细分和分析发现,在使用模糊限制语的种类和频率上,中国学者手稿与国际高水平期刊论文之间的差异是多元化的。本研究的结果对中国学者英语学术论文写作及相关教学具有启示意义。

This paper collected the original manuscripts of Chinese scholars and published papers in the corresponding English magazines to build two corpora, aiming to study the use of hedges in Chinese scholars＇ English academic papers with Contrastive Interlanguage Analysis. The results show that l ） gen- erally Chinese scholars use fewer hedges in frequency; 2） Chinese scholars tend to overuse adaptors, while their use of rounders and attribution shields is largely inadequate; 3） further classification and analy- sis of the four types of hedges indicate that there are pluralistic differences between the manuscripts of Chi- nese scholars and the published papers in terms of the hedge use. The findings of the present study are expected to facilitate Chinese scholars＇ writing of English academic papers as well as to provide some im- plications for related teaching practice.
