The development history of ion plating technologies used in the field of decorative hard films was reviewed. The characteristics and applications of decorative hard films in various colors such as imitation-gold, gold, rose gold and black were introduced. The features and progress of ion plating technologies for making decorative hard films such as cathodic arc ion plating, magnetron sputtering and anode-layer ion source plating were analyzed.
