摘要
19世纪的新加坡秘密会党是个特殊的组织,一方面它从事一些烧杀抢劫等违法活动,破坏了社会秩序;另一方面承担了协助英殖民当局维护社会秩序、保障税收稳定的任务。此期,英殖民当局对它的政策因各种因素的综合作用发生了一系列的变化:从放任与利用到限制与管理,最后取缔与镇压。政策变化的核心因素是维护英殖民当局的利益,呈现了19世纪英国殖民统治方式从自由放任向有序管理发展的特点。
Singapore's secret societies are special organizations in the 19th century. On one hand, they are engaged in some illegal activities such as robbery, as a resect, they destroy the social order; On the other hand, they help the British colonial government to stabilize the social order and security taxes. In this period, as factors had changed, the British colonial authorities 's policy have changed: from the laissez-faire and used to restrict and management, finally to ban and repression. The core factor in the evolution of the policy is to maintain the interests of the British colonial authorities.
