'What is Central Europe? ''What is the future of Central Europe?'After 1989, many expectations became open to solutions,including 're-establishing of ‘Central Europe''for security as well as economic and cultural co-operative reasons. Similarly, the'return to Europe' was proclaimed. The problem remains that identity has not been found after 1989. Finding a new identity must become a process of breaking up with political nationalism in both the Czech and Slovak republics. That will be possible for one more generation. Only strongly accelerated security threats can shorten the course(however,nobody wants it). Only then can a new vision for place of both republics in Europe become stablized and be applied. Since the mid-19 th century, unfortunately, thinking in Central Europe abandoned the recognition of the primacy of culture; it is mired in the worship of the primacy of politics. Therefore, the restoration of Central Europe still stands at a crossroads. The coherence of Central Europe is simultaneously created inside the European Union through its functioning internal mechanisms.
