Humanism is a core concept in Western art theory derived from the Latin/Italian word 'humanist' used by Italian scholars in 15 th century.In the first part,this paper discusses the question of the origin of the word humanist and its spreading in Hispanophone.In the second part it tries to revert to the context of the Renaissance and to explore the relation between the concept 'humanist' and two ancient Roman concepts, 'humanistic studies' and 'humanities'.In the third part,it explores the core skill of a humanists',the rhetoric.
