小说《八月之光》是美国南方文学代言人福克纳的小说。这部小说所具有的哥特式特征从多个侧面反映出了美国旧南方社会人民的生存及心理状态,同时折射出了美国南方重建时期的社会现实。运用弗洛伊德的"人格三重论"深入剖析小说女主人公乔安娜的心理世界,分析她作为一名南方女性,在南方特定历史环境下自我迷失所带来的人生悲剧。
Light in August, written by William Faulkner, the spokesman of American Southern literature, reflects the living conditions and psychological states of people in the old Southern part of America from many aspects with its gothic features, which also mirrors the social realities of the Reconstruction period of the American South. The paper focuses on an interpretation of Joanna's psychological world by using Freudian theory of structure of psyche: id, ego and superego with the aim of analyzing the reason of Joann's tragic life in that particular period of American South—the lost of Ego.
