The Remains of the Day, the representative novel of the contemporary Japanese British writer Kazuo Ishiguro, records Stevens’ six-day trip into the west of England in the form of diary. Remembering narration, as an essential part of the whole narrative, is the way in which the novel’s narration goes and the way the author structures the plot. Stevens’ narration of the past events reflects the characteristics of unreliability, fragmentization, and selectivity of remembering narration, through which, on the one hand, readers see the weight of the selected events in Stevens’ s mind, Stevens’ s courage to face his inner world, his love for Miss Kenton, and his increasingly objective judgment on Lord Darlington; on the other hand, the boundaries of different events are blurred, thus giving remembrance a historical sense and providing Kazuo Ishiguro with an objective point of view to reexamine history.
