《法尔斯塔犬》是威尔第的最后一部歌剧，也是他的第28部歌剧——他的第三部以莎士比亚名著为题材的歌剧（另两部是《麦克白》和《奥赛罗》），也是他的第二部也是最后一部喜剧作品。
Falstqff was the last opera completed by Giuseppe Verdi(1813-1901),with a libretto by Arrigo Boito adapted from Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor and scenes from Henry Ⅳ,parts 1 and 2.Verdi composed Falstqff at the age of 80,and the work premiered on 9February 1893.It was his second comedy and his third work based on a Shakespeare play(after Macbeth and Otello).The plot revolves around the thwarted,sometimes farcical,efforts of the fat knight,Sir John Falstaff,to seduce two married women to gain access to their husbands' wealth.
