基于双语辞书实用性的新词新义处理——以《新世纪汉英大词典》(第二版)为例

Treating New Words and New Senses in Bilingual Dictionaries Based on Lexicographical Practicality:With New Century Chinese-English Dictionary(2^(nd) Edition) as an Example

本文从辞书的实用性出发,以笔者参与修订的大型汉英辞书《新世纪汉英大词典》为例,探讨双语辞书中新词新义的微观处理问题。文章认为,新词条目编排应便于检索、义项分立应突出新义、新词的配例应凸显条目的典型搭配和不同译法、配套新词的收录应具有系统性、新词释义应采用对应词译法。

Based on lexicographical practicality and taking New Century Chinese-English Dictionary （Second Edition） as an example, this paper discusses the treatment of new words and new senses in bilingual dictionaries. It argues that the new words and new senses should be easy to retrieve, the new senses should be made prominent through sense separation, the illustrative examples should be able to reflect typical collocations and variation in translation, new words in a paradigmatic set should be included in the dictionary systematically, and translational equivalents should be provided in neologism translation.
