MEI Guo-qiang's understanding and experience in treating post-irradiation syndrome

梅国强认为放疗类似于《伤寒论》中的"火邪","火邪"为患可以伤阴,也可以伤阳,亦能损伤脾胃之气,水液运化失司,与火热相合,而成湿热或痰热内阻。"火邪"导致伤阴者最著、湿热者恒多、伤阳者亦可见之。在治疗上梅国强强调"扶正祛邪,以和为贵"的原则,重视正气在疾病过程中发挥的作用,但不妄补,须以舌脉为辨;虽有清热散结、利湿解毒等法,但总归于辨证论治。治法灵活,收效显著。

Professor MEI Guo-qiang believes that radiotherapy is similar to ‘fire pathogen＇ in the Treatise on Febrile Diseases.Not only can ‘fire pathogen＇ lead to impairment of yin or yang,but also bring about insui ciency of middle-warmer energy,resulting in transformation failure of body l uid,which will be combined with heat pathogen and lead to dampness-heat or phlegm-heat.‘Fire pathogen＇ leads to dei ciency of yin frequently,damp-heat syndrome mostly,and yang-asthenia syndrome sometimes.In terms of treatment,professor MEI emphasizes the principle of ‘strengthening vital qi to eliminate pathogenic factor,and coordinating yin and yang＇.Simultaneously,he attaches importance to the role of vital qi played in the disease process,but not recklessly to strengthen dei ciency without manifestations of tongue nor pulse condition.Generally speaking,although there are a variety of therapeutic method,such as clearing heat and resolving masses,promoting diuresis and removing toxicity,however,which are always summarized in the method of treatment based on syndrome differentiation.Professor MEI adopts a very l exible method of treatment,and has achieved good clinical ei cacy.
