In literary works, roses tend to be the symbol of women and love. The Scarlet Letter, NathanielHawthorne ' s masterpiece, narrates the tragedy between Hester Prynne, a young and beautifulwoman, and the priest Dimmesdale. The rose near the prison door is one of the symbolic things of the novel. An analysis of the work reveals that the rose-bush growing beside the prison door symbolizes the beautiful, passionate, and tenacious heroine of the story,Hester Prynne, the faithful love flower, and the sweet moralblossom blooming on the remote land of Puritan New England.
