This thesis studies Four Souls created by Louise Erdfich, one of the most influential contemporary American Indian writers, centering on how Indians under the context of multiculture recover their lost root--land. It presents Fleur Pillager＇s journey to seek land by analyzing the significance of land and Indian traditional culture, the influences of mainstream culture on her values, and the reconstruction of her soul with the help of the medicine dress, which reveals Erdrich＇ s exploration of new survival pattern for Indian under the context of muhiculture, and exploration of the marvelous Indian traditional culture, and of history as well.
