Kawasaki disease ( KD ) is characterized with acute and serf-limited systemic vascujitis, occurs predominantly in children between 6 months to 5 years of age.It can lead to devastating cardiovascular complications and become the commonest cause of acquired pediatric heart disease.Epidemiological investigation revealed steady increases in the prevalence of KD in Asian descent, seriously affect public health in children in the near future. However, the etiology and pathogenesis of KD have yet to be known.MMP-9/TIMP-1 is a main enzyme in the regulation of the extracellular matrix synthesis and degradation. To study the relationship between MMP-9/TIMP- 1 and pathogenesis of KD is important in the understanding of KD pathogenesis and prevention of cardiovascular complications.
