上古汉语时期的语气词"也"是一种语气强化标记,能够强化各种语气,同时也具有篇章功能和人际功能。"也"还能够与其他语气词合用来强化语气。句中语气词"也"和副词"亦"连用形成的跨层结构"也亦"则可能是"也"由句中语气词发展为表示类同意义的副词"也"的句法诱因。

The modal particle Ye（也） is a tone-enhancing marker in ancient Chinese, which can be used together with other modal particles. It also has textual and interpersonal functions. The cross-level structure Yeyi （也）, which combines the modal particle Ye （也） with the adverb Yi （也）, may be the syntactic inducement for Ye （也） to decategorize from a modal panicle to an adverb.
