Analysis on the Using Characteristics of the Emperors' Reign Titles in the Song Dynasty

宋王朝300多年的时间,共使用年号57个。这些年号既有以前朝代使用年号时所具有的特点即年号的共同性和相通性,又有宋朝这个特殊朝代所赋予它的独有特点。年号虽为纪年的符号,但却是政治的产物,每个年号中都蕴含着统治者的思想和意识,与一个朝代的政治有千丝万缕的联系。因此年号的使用亦能体现出宋朝历史发展的轨迹。

There were 57 reign titles used in the Song dynasty of more than 300 years of time. These reign titles used then not only had the characteristics of those used in the earlier dynasties, i.e. commonality and interconnection,but the unique characteristics given by the particular Song dynasty. Although they were the symbols recording years, the reign titles were actually the political products. Each title containing the ruler＇ s thought and consciousness had too much relation to the politics of a dynasty. Therefore, the reign titles used can reflect the historical trace of the Song dynasty.
