相比于中世纪就赫赫有名的欧洲大学,美国高等教育只有三百多年的发展,但已走在世界前列,近代欧洲尤其是英、法、德三国高等教育的影响可谓重大而深远。美国高等教育的成功之处在于其在选择和批判性地学习别国有益经验的同时,努力探索符合本国特色的高等教育制度,立足实际,勇于创新,这一过程和经验可以给我国高等教育以启示。

Compared with the famous ancient universities in Europe in the Middle Ages, American higher education with only over 300 years of development has led the world. Modern Europe especially the higher education of Britain, France and Germany, can be a significant and far-reaching impact on American higher education. The success of American higher education lies in its selectively and critically learning useful experiences of other countries and trying to explore the higher educational system with its own characteristics. The process and experience of basing on the actual and making bold innovations can offer some enlightens to Chinese higher education.
