《老人与海》是海明威代表性的作品,作品在健壮的老人奋力捕鱼而无所收获事实中展示了深层次的主题思想,在表现硬汉子精神的同时又彰显着明显的悲剧意蕴;通过对老人捕鱼的结果可以说明桑提亚哥的拼搏彰显着俄狄浦斯式的虚无悲剧,但在其捕鱼的过程中又表现着强者不败的硬汉子精神;最后从老人与鲨鱼搏斗的形而上学的意义上来理解又会发现作品中还流露着耶稣赎罪式的救赎意蕴。

The Old Man and Sea is one of Hemingway＇ s representative works which shows its deep subject ide- as through the facts in whieh the healthy old man struggled to eateh fish but without any harvest. It not only shows the tough guy spirit but the obvious tragedy implication as well. Through the old man＇ s fishing results, we ean ex- plain Santiago＇ s fighting sprit which shows the Oedipal tragedy of nothingness. Meanwhile, we can also find the strong invincible hard man spirit in his fishing process. Apart from this, we may find that in this work, there flows an implication of Jesusi redemption from a metaphysical understanding upon the old man＇ s fighting against the sharks.
